Truth of War Reflection
For my Truth of War project I decided I wanted to make my main project in the form of video arts. I have wanted to make a video arts project since my BNW project last year but never got around to it. During the All Quiet on the Western Front seminar I got into a main point about how videogames desensitize us and felt that I had made a good point, so I decided to built off of that and compare the Truth of War and what war really is and how video games glorify war and try to make it look fun. While I was in the process of making my final trailer I decided I wanted to put a few graphic images into my film. It ended up that I got a lot more than I wanted; I ended up seeing heads being blown off and people being shot it was something I cannot get out of my head. It really put me into perspective when I thought about seeing that image in real life or inflicting that pain onto another human, I also thought about how excited I get if I do that to another player on a video game.
A Habit of Heart and Mind I used a lot throughout the process of creating my essay was perseverance, I used this HoHaM because throughout the entire writing process of writing my final essay I probably wrote 5 different pages of trash. I was being hard on myself and didn’t feel that anything I was writing was good enough. I persevered and decided that I would start off each of my paragraphs with main headers and then built off of those headers. I was very pleased with the outcome of my essay.
A large revision I made on my essay was the fact that I incorporated how war was looked at in the eyes of a veteran of war. At first my entire project was going to revolve around how video games about war desensitized us and how war was glorified by the media. I then decided that it would be cooler to put my project into two different perspectives on war. So I then decided to compare and contrast the two perspectives.
If I had a time extension on my project I think that I would focus more on my movie trailer. I would have liked to incorporate some real life videos, like interviews with veterans of war or interviews with kids to get there outlook on war, guns, and those cool xbox FPS games.
